On 22 December 2008 Ferrotramviaria inaugurated the railway line FM1 Metro. This new service is provided using in part the historical line of the Ferrovie Nord Barese (Bari Centrale - Quintino Sella - Brigata Bari - Francesco Crispi - Fesca San Girolamo) and partly a new infrastructure designed by Ferrotramviaria SpA, who directed the construction work. The new infrastructure is spread over a 1.9 km viaduct and a tunnel about 2.7 kilometers and includes five new stops: Tesoro - Cittadella - San Gabriele - Ospedale - Cecilia.
The work will be prolonged for another 0.8 kilometers, all in the gallery, and includes the construction of a new station, called ''Delle Regioni''.
